Frequently Asked questions
WHAT IS A ‘SECOND AFFILIATED PLAYER’ AND WHEN CAN I ADD THEM TO A SQUAD
A second affiliated player is:
No second affiliated players can be added to teams after the deadline date unless they are ‘new’ to the league. A ‘new’ player is one who has not already taken the court for, or been nominated to a team by, a Club taking part in the relevant County Adult League.
- A player who is playing for their first affiliated club in the Tyne and Wear County League but chooses to play for a second club in the league as well. A second affiliated player fee is payable for these players and they must be named in your squad at the start of the season when you submit your club roster.
- A Player who is first affiliated to a Club via a County other than Tyne and Wear and chooses to play for a team in the Tyne and Wear County League. These players are classed as second affiliates and the relevant fee is payable for each of them and they must be named in your squad at the start of the season when you submit your club roster.

I HAVE A NEW PLAYER WHO HAS JOINED THE CLUB MID-SEASON
If the player is totally new to Netball and not already affiliated, first affiliate them on line via ENgage. Then email the Competition Secretary [email protected] with the name, affiliation number and nominated team for the new player.
If the player is already affiliated via another club (regardless of which county this is) she will be classed as a “second affiliate”. At this time Second Affiliations are being done manually rather than through ENgage So email the Competition Secretary [email protected] with the name, affiliation number and nominated team for the new player and confirm how the £10 fee will be paid – either cash or cheque to a committee member or electronically to the County Account. Note: only ‘new’ players can be added mid-season.

I HAVE A REGULAR CLUB PLAYER WHO I DIDN’T NOMINATE AT THE START OF THE SEASON BECAUSE SHE WAS INJURED BUT SHE IS NOW READY TO PLAY
Ensure the player is affiliated to your club then email the Competition Secretary [email protected] with the name, affiliation number and nominated team for the player.
MY UMPIRE HAS HAD TO DROP OUT / I CAN’T FIND AN UMPIRE!
- Post a request on the facebook page – Tyne and Wear County Netball Umpires.
- Via the Handbook contact umpires you regularly see umpiring on the night you are playing. Think about which umpires have umpired your previous matches.
- If you don’t find an umpire via the methods above then contact the Officiating Secretary [email protected] who may be able to suggest possible umpires.
- If the only Umpire you can find will be doing three hours on the night ensure you clear this with either the Officiating Secretary or the Competition Secretary. Note that umpires should only be doing three hours if no other umpire is available!
WE CAN’T FIELD A TEAM AND WILL HAVE TO CONCEDE OUR MATCH?
- Try and find enough players to play a friendly, remember that in a friendly ‘playing up’ doesn’t apply so players from other teams in your club can help out – whether they are from higher or lower teams.
- If you are going to play a friendly you must inform your opponents, preferably before the night of the match although this might not be possible if players drop out last minute. You only need to inform someone from your opponents, for example the Secretary, Coach or Captain of the other team and then it is up to them if they inform all their team or not.
- If you are playing a friendly you must inform the two umpires – this can be done on the night before the match starts.
- If you are unable to play a friendly then you must inform all those involved in the match and ensure you get confirmation that they have received the message:
- Opposing team
- Two Clubs providing the Umpires
- Competition Secretary
- Don’t forget that you will still be required to provide your umpire on the night and pay them!
- If you are unable to offer a friendly then the opposing team can ask you for the financial compensation as detailed in the league rules. The only exception to this is if you offer to play a friendly and the opposition decline this offer – in these circumstances you do not have to play the financial compensation. Please note that it is up to the two teams involved to agree and organise the payment of any financial compensation.
