Matches
We need to cancel our match - Please try to cancel matches at least 24 hours beforehand.
1. On the T&W County League Facebook page and the Tyne and Wear County Netball (Umpiring) facebook page post messages clearly stating the following.
2. Remember you will still have to provide and pay for an Umpire on the night and cover Duty if it’s your allocated night.
- The match being cancelled – include opposing team name and letter, match date and time.
- The names of the two Clubs providing the umpires.
- Please ensure you get acknowledgments from all 3 clubs above. IF you don’t get acknowledgements from the 3 clubs then try the email addresses for the Clubs on the County website and/or send an email to [email protected] clearly stating the match being cancelled and we will try and help circulate the information.

We can’t raise a team for the match but can play a friendly
Please give the opposing team as much notice as you can. However, in the event that it is a last minute issue ensure you inform the opposing team and both umpires on the night, before the match starts. Both teams should submit a team sheet following a friendly but any player playing will not count towards playing up. Do not state the score of the match, in the result field put “Conceded by Reds” – where Reds were the team who couldn’t raise a team.
The opposition team conceded our match tonight do I have to submit a team sheet
Yes, to claim the points for the match you need to submit a team sheet whether the match was played as a friendly or not. The form will force you to enter at least 5 players names, these do not count towards any playing up occurrences so you could just enter a single letter in the field
One of our players wants to video a match in the County League, is that allowed?
It may be depending upon the circumstances. The County’s Photography Policy can be found on the Rules and Forms tab along with the form that you need to complete if you do video any match. The permission of the opposing team should always be sought before submitting any forms or committing to any photography. In addition, if young players are involved (which they almost certainly will be) the Club doing the photography MUST ensure they hold the relevant signed forms, giving permission for their own players to be videoed too.
We don’t have a Scorer for tonight’s match, can I ask the Umpire
No. Please do not ask the Umpire to score for you. Either find a person on the sideline who is willing to help or you may have to drop a player. You may be able to agree with the opposing team that they will score the whole match but they are within their rights to refuse and make you drop a player to score. If you do agree then you MUST abide by their scorer and score, you will have no right of appeal.
We are on Duty tonight and don’t know what to do
Check out the Duty Night Instructions document on the Rules and Forms Tab
We ordered new kit and but it hasn’t arrived yet
Firstly, please inform the Competition Secretary. Then agree on a similar set of kit that all players can wear for matches until your new kit arrives – for example a white t-shirt and black skirt/leggings. Specifically, please make sure all players play in the same colour top. Where only one or two players are missing matching kit, make sure they play in a top which is the same colour as the main kit.
I’ve just had my nails done/ears pierced can I play with them taped
No. Rules around nails and jewellery may differ in different leagues but in the T&W County League we adhere to the World Netball rules. Players may not wear anything that could endanger themselves or other players, specifically:
- No adornment or jewellery may be worn other than a wedding ring which must be covered with tape.
- A medical alert bracelet may be worn provided it is covered with tape.
- Fingernails must be short and smooth.
- Hair must be suitably tied back.
Membership and Player Eligibility
I can’t login to ENgage/Complete my membership/Find my EN ID, etc.
Unfortunately, members of the County Committee cannot help you with ENgage, you will have to contact England Netball directly or check the Help Pages on their website.
I forgot to do my EN membership but I’ll do it tomorrow, can I play tonight
No, all players must be full members of England Netball BEFORE they take the court. See the current League Rules for the penalty for playing an ineligible player.
Can I add a player to a squad mid-season?
Yes - If the player has not already taken the court for a team in the relevant (Winter or Spring) League or been nominated to another team AND they are full members of England Netball. If you are certain this is the case then complete the Squad Amendment Form on the website to submit the details to the Competition Group. You do not need the specific permission of the Competition Group having submitted the form, as the responsibility for ensuring the player is eligible before taking the court rests with the Club and Player. Any ‘seconds’ fees due as a result must be paid promptly.
No – if the player is already playing for a team in the relevant County League OR was nominated to the squad of another team for that County League. If a player was named on one Clubs squad but hasn’t taken the court then permission may be sought from the Competition Referee for the player to transfer teams mid-league. The Competition Referee will consider the circumstances of the request and make a decision.

I don’t know how many times a player has played up
Each time you submit your team sheet a copy is sent back via email. Check back over the emails to see who you named on the sheet and how many times the player has played up. If the player was named on the team sheet then they will be deemed to have played up. Check the league rules for the current playing up limits.
I AM AN ENGLAND NETBALL MEMBER, DO I HAVE TO PAY THE ‘SECONDS’ FEE
- NO - If you are an England Netball member via a T&W Club and only playing for that Club in the adult league there will be no ‘seconds’ fee to pay.
- YES - If you are an England Netball member via a T&W Club and are playing for that club and a second Club in the county league you will need to pay the ‘seconds’ fee of £10 for your second club.
- YES - If you are an England Netball member via a Club in another County (not T&W) but playing for a T&W Club you will need to attach yourself to your T&W Club on ENgage, this should result in a £5 charge. The remaining £5 of the £10 seconds fee should be paid by your Club to the County on your behalf.
- YES - If you are an England Netball member via a Club in another County and playing for that Club in the County League you will pay your £10 seconds fee via your Club at the start of the season or when you are named on their squad. This applies to the Northumberland and North Durham Clubs who play in our County League.
Umpiring
My Umpire has dropped out last minute OR I can’t find an Umpire
- Post a request on the facebook page – Tyne and Wear County Netball (Umpires).
- If there is less than 48 hours until your match email the Officiating Secretary to make them aware of the issue – they may or may not be able to help - [email protected].
- If the only Umpire you can find will be doing three hours on the night ensure you clear this with either the Officiating Secretary or the Competition Secretary/Referee. Note that umpires should only be doing three hours if no other umpire is available and at the last minute!
- If you don’t find anyone to umpire you should contact the Officiating Secretary and make arrangements to cancel the match. In this event your club will be responsible for the costs of re-organising the match
