Performance
Tyne and Wear County deliver official England Netball endorsed Player Development Programmes (PDPs) to provide the opportunity for young players to develop and progress along the England Netball Performance Pathway. The current PDP’s run for Under 13s and Under 15s with training several times a month and fellow County match play opportunities across the North East on Sunday mornings and with other Counties in Tournaments throughout the Programme Calendar. The programmes run for approximately 30 weeks from October to May and trials are usually held in September.
The Under 13s PDP is the first entrance into the Excel Pathway and the focus is on the individual’s development. All pathway athletes are required to be members of a school and club team so that they can gain match competition in these environments. The programmes offer approximately 50 hours of training over 8 months to a squad of around 20. All players MUST be affiliated to a Club. Players at PDP Under 13 level are from school years 8 and below.
The Under 15 PDP is the next step up from the Under 13 PDP and the focus is on working with other players. The Academy offers approximately 50 hours of training over 8 months to a squad of around 20 players. All players MUST be affiliated to a Club. Players at Under 15 PDP level are from school years 9 and 10. Trials for the PDPs are held in September each year and trialists are nominated via their netball Clubs. In order to progress to the NPL Regional academies, players must be part of an England Netball endorsed County PDP.
The County have a nominated committee member who acts as a Performance Lead and Welfare Officer for the players in the County PDPs. They can be contacted on [email protected] The nominated committee member is Sarah-Jane Cross.
