53rd Torch Trophy Trust Awards

31/5/2016

Picture
A total of twenty volunteers were recognised for their outstanding dedication to sport in their local communities at the 53rd Torch Trophy Trust Awards at the Army and Navy Club in London. Nearly 2 million adults (1,914,300) in England contribute at least one hour a week to volunteering in sport, but so few are celebrated.

Margaret Chambers was nominated by England Netball for her contributions to netball, specifically through her work as the founder, manager and coach, in 1967, of Burnside Netball Club. All these years later, Margaret still encourages the growth of the sport through competition, often working up to 3 nights a week at club level.

For 24 years, Margaret has also given service to the Tyne and Wear County Netball Association Committee in a variety of roles, including umpiring, and she has umpired at international, as well as grassroots levels.

Margaret has contributed to every facet of netball in her county area, and after all these years is still noted as one of the most enthusiastic volunteers around.

Congratulations to Margaret!
