BIG SUMMER OF NETBALL

30/6/2014

Picture
In the latest edition of the Netball magazine we launched the ‘Big Summer of Netball’ which is a campaign designed to address the dramatic drop in participation Netball experienced last summer and which led to the funding cut we received from Sport England earlier this year. The campaign has a number of different parts which I hope will benefit netball at local and regional level. Below is a summary of the key elements of the campaign that include a big push on promotion of all current Netball activity, and provision of funding for new activities that haven’t yet been planned. We realise time is against us this year, however we hope to attract enough interest from players and volunteers to test the concept and demonstrate to Sport England that with further investment next year we can start to provide a comprehensive year round calendar of netball activities which will see participation rise once again.

Big Summer of Netball – Key Information and Messages

Call to action for players – check out the EN session finder to find a summer netball activity for you, whatever your age of ability!
Last week a session finder was launched on the home page and programme pages of the EN website,  the session finder is very similar to the B2N session finder which allows players to search all available sessions by their postcode. The session finder provides details of all Back to Netball, Netball Now and Netball Youth Camps running across the country. Our aim is to extend this list to include details of leagues, tournaments and festivals running throughout June, July and August by collecting details from the local Netball community and commercial providers, see call to action below. The session finder can be accessed viawww.englandnetball.co.uk We will be emailing all members on the EN database with an eflyer and link shortly.

Call to action to organisers of existing activity
As mentioned above we’d like to support the promotion of existing activity by advertising it to the nation to ensure all activities are fully booked. We are keen to promote any tournaments or leagues via the session finder. Anyone running activity can request a session registration form by emailing[email protected] alternatively please feel free to forward to your contacts the form attached and ask them to return it to the same email address. If this concept works we’ll keep the session finder beyond the summer and offer all non-commercial netball organisers / partners the chance to advertise their netball activities to the nation for free!

Call to action to organisers who can make new activity happen this summer
We know it’s quite late notice however we’re hoping that there might be a few local volunteers who want to help us make netball happen this summer and can pull together a league or festival / tournament during July / August. To support them we have launched a BSN grant scheme to support the delivery of new activity (activity that is not already planned or promoted) This grant scheme can be applied for by regions, counties, leagues, clubs, county sports partnerships and local authorities, different levels of funding are being offered for the following:

£1000 – for running a League for 12+ teams over 4 or more weeks
£750 – for running a League for 8-12 teams over 4 or more weeks
£500 – for running a League for 4-8 teams over 4 or more weeks
£200 – for running a 1 day / weekend Festival / Tournament for 8+ teams that lasts more than 6 hours in total

A copy of the grant application details are attached for your info however please encourage organisations who would be interested in running new activity over the summer to request their own funding application by emailing [email protected] so we can monitor interest. All applications need to be received by 31st July 2014. We will be allocating funding on a first come first served basis and applicants will receive a funding decision within a week of returning their applications, funding will be released a maximum of 14 days following this confirmation. As part of the process applicants are encouraged to contact their County Netball Association to make you aware of their plans and ensure we don’t duplicate provision. We will also keep counties and regions informed about any grants awarded. Regrettably we cannot fund activities that have already been promoted this year however in future years we hope to be able to offer grants to organisations to extend their current provision.

I would be grateful for your support in promoting the Big Summer of Netball through your networks and if you have any questions about the information above or would like any further details please don’t hesitate to contact me

Kind regards

Tuesdays 7.30-8.30pm (starts 10th June)

Netball Now sessions are not coached, it is not a competition that is governed by rules and regulations, and scores are not recorded. It is simply a sessions to turn up at and pay a small fee before playing a game of netball- simple as that!

Netball Now is a pay and play session that allows both keen, committed netballers to play a bit more, as well as those that want to play on a more ad hoc basis to fit netball around their lifestyles.
